Prodigy Legal LLP litigates trademark, copyright, patent and design disputes before the Intellectual Property Division of the Delhi High Court and the commercial courts in Delhi, from our office at Connaught Place, New Delhi.
Our work ranges from urgent injunctions and anti-counterfeiting actions to complex technology and media disputes — including defending technology platforms and app developers in broadcaster anti-piracy proceedings — for Indian businesses and for technology and media companies from the US, UK, EU and Singapore.
What we handle
- Trademark infringement and passing-off suits, including well-known mark protection.
- Copyright infringement — software, content, broadcasts and digital media.
- Broadcast and streaming piracy: enforcement, and defence of platforms and app developers.
- Patent and design infringement suits and revocation or rectification proceedings.
- Anti-counterfeiting actions with local commissioners and seizures.
- Domain name, social-media impersonation and online marketplace disputes.
- Appeals from IP Division orders and cross-border IP disputes.
Experience in complex and high-profile matters
We have defended technology platforms and IPTV app developers in anti-piracy proceedings brought by a major Indian broadcaster before the Delhi High Court. These matters raise difficult questions at the intersection of copyright, broadcast reproduction rights and technology: whether software that does not itself host content can be held liable, how far intermediary protections extend, and how broadly blocking and 'dynamic' injunction orders should reach.
We also represent technology and media companies from the US, UK, EU and Singapore in IP and commercial disputes in India, coordinating Indian proceedings with their in-house and overseas counsel.
How we approach IP litigation
- Early assessment of the strongest forum, the relief realistically available, and the evidence needed for an interim injunction.
- Speed where it matters: urgent applications, local commissioner and preservation orders.
- Technical depth in software, streaming and online-platform disputes.
- Commercial focus: settlement, licensing or a strategic exit where that serves the client better than a trial.
Frequently asked questions
Which court hears IP disputes in Delhi?
Suits above the pecuniary limit of the Delhi High Court's original jurisdiction (currently over ₹2 crore) are filed in the High Court and heard by its IP Division. Lower-value IP suits go to the commercial courts at the district level. Revocation and rectification matters that were earlier heard by the Intellectual Property Appellate Board are now heard by the High Court.
Do you act for defendants as well as rights-holders?
Yes. We act for brand owners and content owners enforcing their rights, and for businesses, platforms and developers defending infringement claims.
Can a foreign company sue for IP infringement in Delhi?
Yes. Foreign rights-holders regularly litigate in the Delhi High Court. See our page on IP disputes in India for foreign companies for the practical steps involved.
